We are children of God

Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.—1 JOHN 3:2,3

Right now, if you believe in Jesus Christ, you are a child of God. But it hasn’t been revealed what we shall be. We’re sort of hidden at this time. But there’s coming a day, the glorious manifestation of the children of God (Rom. 8:21), when the whole world is going to find out who we really are. And when that happens, we’re going to be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. This incredible promise is our hope. Someday we’re going to be like Jesus Christ. We’ll not only experience it, but everyone will see it and the truth will then be revealed that we are the children of God. If you live in the anticipation of the coming of Christ, it changes the way you live. How should it alter the way we live when we anticipate the imminent return of Jesus Christ? He could come at any time. But the fact that we know He’s coming, and He is perfectly pure, and that when He does come, He’s going to make us like Himself, that should be a marvelous motivation for our own purity. Make sure that when He does come, He finds you living in a pure way.
