Meditate day and night
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”—JOSHUA 1:8
In the case of Joshua, the “Book of the Law” specifically referred to Genesis through Deuteronomy as written by Moses. But it can be expanded, of course, to refer to all the Word of God. And it says that it should not depart from your mouth. You should be speaking the words of Scripture at all times. That will happen when you meditate in it day and night. It’s a simple principle, isn’t it? You saturate your mind and thoughts with the Word of God, and it comes out in your speech. When you’re filled with the Word of God, that’s what’s going to come out of your mouth. The verse also says that the purpose for this meditation is that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. And that’s what will happen. As you meditate or feed on the Word of God, it nourishes and shapes you as a person. It says that if you meditate, speak the Word, live the Word, you’ll make your way prosperous and you’ll have good success. The promise of God is a blessing on your spiritual effort and spiritual enterprise through the deep understanding and the application of Scripture.
